ANNOUNCEMENTS  , February 4/5, 2012

A SPECIAL WELCOME!  t0 all who are worshiping today.  We gather to give praise and thanks to the one who has given us the baby Jesus, and through him, all things. If you are a visitor or new in the community,  help us get to know your household by  filling  out one of our visitor cards and please sign the guest register in the narthex.   But above all we invite you to worship with us at any time.  If you want your personal offering returned to your home congregation, please use a visitor envelope and write the name of your congregation on the envelope front. 

Hearing assistance - individual hearing receivers are available in the narthex.  Please ask the usher. 

Activity bags for the use of young attendees are in the narthex.  At the end of the service, please return.  Also, ushers have activity sheets for children.

Sympathy  is extended to Dan & Sandy Gilbertson in the death of his sister-in-law, Kren Gilbertson.  Sympathy also to Pastor Taryn and family in the death of her great-aunt Anna Leschen.  Please remember these families in your prayers.

Best Wishes are extended to George Officer who celebrates his 92nd birthday today, Feb 5.  Blessings, George today and in the year to come.

Today we give thanks for the partnership between Bread of Life and Augustana Lutheran Church.  These have been a wonderful 7 months of shared ministry together!  As we celebrate how God has been active in this place, let us keep both congregations in prayer as we move into our futures. 

Following the Sunday worship there will be a congregation dinner.  Please stop and have a great meal, fellowship together,  and extend well wishes to Augustana and Bread of Life congregations as they continue with their ministry in the Minot community.

 Augustana members 
 ~ Beginning Sunday, Feb 12 there will be worship at Minot State Student Union at 10:30.  Sunday school and adult forum will be at 9:15.  Park in the lot east of the building and use that entry, ride the elevator to third floor. 
~ Can you help with set-up arrangements?  Sign-up sheets are available today.

Pastor Taryn will be away at a continuing education event this week, February 6-13.  Should you have a pastoral need please contact the church office.  Also note that there will be NO bible study this Wednesday.  We will resume next Wednesday, February 15 at 5:15pm.
 

Quilters meet Monday, Feb 6, 9 am - noon.  You are invited to come and be a part.  No experience necessary.  Great on-the-job training.

Cheesecakes for New Orleans ~  4 BOL youth will be attending the National ELCA Youth Gathering in July.   As a fund raiser they (and their parents) are making and selling cheesecakes as a fundraiser.  Orders are now being taken.  Cakes will be available the first week of February.  (or if you have a specific date they will accommodate that)  Cakes freeze  very well and would be a great Valentine's dessert. Order forms are in narthex. 

Ash Wednesday,  February 22 ~  Each Wednesday, during the season of Lent there will be a soup and bread supper followed by the Lenten service. 

Dakota Crunch, a chocolate coated toffee candy, is being produced by Mikey’s Country Candy, a Pride of Dakota company located in Burlington.      The candy is being  sold for $5 a package with  $3 from each package going to the WND Flood of Love Fund.   The proceeds of this fund will be used for rebuilding the damaged  ELCA churches.  Will make great Valentine treats.

Augustana Annual Meeting -    Feb 12 is the date for the Augustana congregation annual meeting.  

House Blessings - If you are leaving your home or entering a new one (perhaps a temporary apartment or a FEMA trailer), you are encouraged to have a "House Blessing" to mark the occasion.  If you are interested in further information, please talk to the pastor or call the church office. 

 February 14 is the next Lutheran Campus Ministry soup day for BOL? We will need a few people to bring a crock pot of soup because there are about 70 students coming each week now!  We could use a few goodies, too. Please let  Tracey Lawson (838-2378) or the church office know if you can help . 

Lutheran Campus Ministry invites you to:  Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras Dessert Night – Tuesday, February 21 from 6:30 – 8:30 at First Lutheran Church  parish center. You are invited for a wonderful evening of dessert tasting and entertainment!

Weekly Mission Outreach -  Each week, as you are able, please bring a designated  item.  Next week please bring Toilet paper/Kleenex.   A basket for food pantry items is in the narthex.   ALSO a easy way to help ~~~~ containers are in the narthex for your old eye glasses,  pop tops, postage stamps, others

Theology on Tap  - Young adults (ages 21-39) are invited to come for fellowship and conversation on topics of religion, faith and contemporary issues that directly affect the lives of young adults.  Meet Thursday nights, from 6-8pm at Buffalo Wings and Rings. 

A date for your calendar - The BOL Buffalo dinner is scheduled for Sunday, Feb 19.  There is a sign-up sheet for workers and contributions in the narthex today.
